Over the years, John Robert Powers’ courses have produced a variety of talented individuals from around the world and we like to share their inspirational stories to encourage our students to strive for success. This time we have an extra special former student to tell you about- the Philippines very own Mary Jean Lastimosa!
Mary Jean attended level IV programs at our Makati branch in 2010 and has since gone on to become hugely successful. This week we were proud to share the news that our former star pupil had won the Binibining Pilipinas Universe Pageant and will therefore be representing the Philippines at the Miss Universe Pageant 2014.
The 26-year-old beauty from North Cotabato won the crown at the annual pageant’s grand coronation night which took place at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. She also took home the Best in Swimsuit award at this year’s event and won over the panel of judges, including reigning Miss Universe Queen Gabriela Isler, with her eloquence, grace and composure.
This was not her first appearance in the pageant; Mary Jean participated in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant twice before finally winning the crown this year. Mary Jean won the second runner-up title in 2011 and competed again in 2012, where she placed in the top 12 semi-finalists. Her drive and determination finally paid off as she exclaimed, “third time is a charm”, after her victory on Sunday night.
Aside from her pageant success, Mary Jean is also a computer engineer and entrepreneur who has established her own slimming centre in Davao.
We are so proud to see one of our JRP trained talents achieving so much and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful and gracious women to represent our country in the 63rd Miss Universe Pageant later this year. We have high hopes for her; contestants from the Philippines have consecutively placed in the top 5 at the Miss Universe Pageant since 2010.
